Free valet parking was nice, don't have to hunt for a parking spot. Not a huge variety of food, but the food was delicious. The all-you-can-eat menu had oysters and crab legs, amongst other dishes. It was a bit pricey, but easy to justify after seeing the dishes they had.

We came on a Thursday for breakfast buffet , meals to cook right in front of you. Good variety and tasty treats to eat. Food was delicious and fresh, view to the outside where the ocean was is gorgeous. You are able to walk around as soon as you finish your meal. We payed $12.59 per person to eat. We were satisfied and pleasantly full and delighted. Our waitress was sweet and fun Sheila was her name. If you are in Clearwater I would recommend it, if you are hungry and want to enjoy the scenery.

This place! One of my favorites! If the temperature is allowing and the "lets pig out" vibe is right, we drive 45 minutes to come here. Best $40 bucks you'll spend. AYCE everything, beautiful sunset and great wait staff. Wasn't amazed with the wine and beer selection and my cocktails were never anything to brag about so I've learned to just stay away from the alcohol and opt for a cup of coffee or tea post meal because it gets that serious. I always leave here wowed. Because coming here is like impulse shopping. You're just like screw it, I'll have one of each. And this new, classy twist they've put on it ever since renovating and renaming it to Open Flame is very diggable. The soups are always great! I'm okay on the flatbread station because filling up on bread at a buffet is a waste. MEAT STATION! They've changed it to not only freshly carved meats but also single portion servings like chimichurri drizzled lamb strips on top of buttered polenta. Prime rib, filet mignon cuts. Sausage selections. They have various seafood options like fra diavolo, mussels in curry sauce, stuffed fish. Raw bar options like cocktail shrimp, crab legs of course. Lots of salads and sushi to choose from. And their extended dessert station now! Love that you see chefs always ready to answer questions or prepare variations. Sit outside and overlook whatever's going on at the resort next door that evening. Always good people watching. Closed on Mondays btw!

Dishoest server. Horrible service My family doesnt speak english. The server gave the bill in the middle of the dinner and rushed them to finish their meal. The server kept asking how we are going to pay although we are still eating food. Believe me. The server asked my father about payment about 4 times while I was not there. I was only English speaker in my family She handed 10 dollar less change without receipt. It was kind of obvious that she did it with intention. She hid the receipt!!!!!!! My father doesnt speak english and he hand hundred dollar bills. After I figure out she did not hand 9 dollar and 86 cents, she only ave us 9 dollar back and told us to leave the place. This place definitely need to train their servers. Food was okay, but does not worth the money. I found some worms in oysters.

Greatest steak and seafood collection I can recall finding in a buffet. The prime rib is outstanding. The shrimp, oysters, Alaskan Crab, sushi, etc. makes for an overwhelming choice. The quality and service is also great. I prefer the patio to watch the main stage and everyone on their boats, jet skis, etc.

Awful. It was not only insanely busy (1.5 hours wait, which may explain our server's total lack of attention), but the food was really awful (which does not explain the overcooked seafood, super salty & not warm crab legs, items that needed to be tossed and we're still out). For $40 a person, I could think of pretty much anywhere else to go. This is a no go.

So far I give this place 2 stars, the 3rd star is for my waitress Leah, and the music from the Tiki bar next door. The price was ok, but the buffet itself was very small. All the rant that people told me about this place is not what I experienced. Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't the BOMB like people explained. Now the drinks were awesome, I had a Kiwi mix drink and my fiancé had a blackberry cocktail and dayum, they did not skimp on the alcohol....DELICIOUS I DEFINITELY would come back here just for the entertainment and the drinks....lol

Went to Shephard's ocean flame buffet on Clearwater beach last night for our anniversary. We had a fabulous time. Best crab legs I've ever had. Fresh, sweet, white fleshed(not dark nuckled), perfectly cooked. (No chineese buffet crab legs here) Smaller buffet choices then the Hard Rock but I feel better food quality. Best creme Brule

Regret going here. Definitely not interactive. The food was not very good and some of it may not be safe to eat. The hot foods weren't kept hot and the meats were lying around for a long time and tasted dry. The staff doesn't really seem to care that much. Overall just not worth the money.

We wanted a seafood buffet while we were staying in Clearwater for the night. I chose this place and I'm so happy I did! Our waiter was amazing! Eric f. Was his name (asked for permission to use his name) and he was by far the best waiter I ever had anywhere! The food was great! My kids who are not seafood lovers even loved it! Was a great place to go for dinner! I highly recommend!

Let's be frank: This is a seafood buffet. Go in knowing that, and knowing you are going to gorge yourself on crab, shrimp, oysters, swordfish, prime rib, ny strip, and maybe sushi and you will have an amazing time. In the Bay area, I don't know of a finer buffet to be honest. The meats are good quality for the cut, well prepared and very flavorful, and so tender cutting with a butterknife was no issue. Chicken, pork, sausage, 4 cuts of steak (flank, tbone, strip, prime rib) were all good from the cutting board. In addition there was steak au poivre and braised lamb on the steam trays. The seafood was really worth my money: swordfish (my favorite and very moist), cod, salmon, tilapia all done just right. Oysters on the raw, curried mussels (yumm!), steamed clam, and mounds of steamed shrimp. A sushi station doing sashimi rolls fresh. All that is beside the point because lets be honest, you're here for crab legs and they do not disappoint. Now I cant speak much to carby sides like mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, because I'm on a low carb diet but they seemed ok. There was also seafood and Conch chowder which I couldn't have. My companions tried the desserts: I'm told the peanut butter pie was excellent. The blackberry cheesecake looked tasty. Final note is there is an attached bar so the drink selection was good, though honestly Ive seen better.

From the service to the food, I'm overly-satisfied! Ate so much, I was feeling nauseated. Snow crabs were humongous, it made it easy for the men to break them open. They were so moist that it didn't need any butter or cocktail sauce. The oysters on a half shell were cleaned so well that I didn't have to inspect for rocks, dirt or pearl as the last time I had one elsewhere a year ago, I crunched into something that looks like a hard rock and ended up losing my appetite and avoiding all oysters. They had great sushi except the rice was dry but that's probably from sitting out. The only other minor disappointment was they did not allow men with sleeveless shirts when dining-in. They suggested the men to purchase from the clothing outlet next door, luckily it was only $2. Our waitress was so sweet. Made sure all of us were content before we left. The frozen cocktail drink was so delicious that I drank so fast and had a brain freeze. This is 5-star even regardless that we had to leave and go buy a shirt, it's because they saved and secured my credit card in which I forgot to collect after paying our bill.

After shopping for a venue to have a wedding reception I selected Shephard's Ocean Flame because my sister had her reception here because I remembered it being beautiful. The place is beautiful and the outside area is great for photos. Everyone who attended commended me on how great the food was. "There's something for every taste to unleash your inner foodie" lol. There was a scheduled reservation which everyone had to be prompt for but something came up so we were late. The staff could have made all of my guests wait until we arrived an hour later, but they were kind enough to seat them after 30 or 45 minutes of waiting. Though the buffet is a little pricey everything tasted great! I had a lot of fruits and veggies but there was plenty of meat, seafood like crabs and lobsters that the guests enjoyed. Overall, I am glad we choose this place for our reception and had a great time!

Our visit for dinner on 7-19-14. The parking garage was full, so valet is the only alternative, its $10, tip not included. When we arrived, I soon found out there were no tables available. Even though the dining area and outside area was only half full. You must have a reservation, which our party did not. We ended up sitting at the bar. Although a little uncomfortable, the bar staff was friendly, attentive and gave good service. The food on the buffet was above average, great selection and a lot to choose from. As were the desserts, I had creme brulee, chocolate mouse and flan, yum!. If you go early, you can get a wrist band, which allows you to see the band outside. After a certain hour, it costs $8 I was told. We got the wrist bands. After dinner we sat outside, enjoyed the music, and nice atmosphere. There are a couple of bars inside, that are air conditioned too. We went inside as the humidity and heat were typical for Florida. Dinner for two, not including drinks was about $75, a bit pricey when you factor in the valet and tips.... If you do not mind the prices, its a great place for an evening. Not really a place I would want to hang out on a regular basis due touristy prices. But still a nice place to visit.

Took my wife there and had a wonderful time! Food was great! Waitress was excellent! A bit pricy @ $32 plus drinks and tip and only parking is valet so plan on a few xtra for tip there but overall we loved it ... Not just seafood but steak, pork, prime rib ... and fir those who say that all the meat was dry because it was sitting out ... just ask the chef to cook u a fresh steak ... he was more than happy to do it for us !! My wife likes her steak rare and they were more than accommodating! I will definitely go back for a special occasion!

Great location on the beach with a nice outside bar and seating area. Crappy buffet that is overpriced. $25 a person!!! The food was low quality and pretty bad. The best thing I had was the ice cream. It's a good place if you are looking for quantity, not quality. I wish we would have stayed in the outside bar area and ordered off that menu instead of eating inside the main dining room. The nachos and wings looked better than what they offer on the buffet. Eat and drink outside, stay away from the buffet!

We went on the 4th of July. We felt the buffet was a good value. we had peel, and eat shrimp, lobster bisque, the buffet was a lot if good food, the prime rib was okay but the crabs legs were great. The dessert bar was good also. We would come again.

Nice view, horrible food. Upon arrival we found ZERO parking except valet. At $28 a plate this brunch buffet could use a deep cleaning. The sun room we were sat in smelled like mildew. Thumping muffled dance music could not be ignored through the glass. All the windows and doors are locked tight because they charge a separate cover to actually go anywhere near the water. Mediocre food had obviously been sitting there for quite awhile. The eggs benedict had grown leathery on the bottom from the heat trays. The prime rib was fatty and dry, and you had to ring a door bell to call an attendant to slice it for you. The sushi, was just gross. Forgettable if it doesn't make you sick.

  • K K.

Very good! Both the seafood and non seafood selection was fantastic so even if you don't eat seafood it was well worth the price. Even the pickiest eater will be happy here. To top it all off, the dessert bar was amazing.

Granted, I hail from the land of buffets, and even so, I am still not a die hard fan of the ode to mass consumption. However, I think I can appreciate a buffet done well, and I think the lunch buffet here is a bit below an a-ok buffet. I had really wanted to try the breakfast buffet, but we made it a smidge too late. We were the first to sample the lunch buffet offerings. Overall, the food was a little bland, even the mahi with a tropical salsa didn't really deliver a flavor punch. The salad bar portion of the buffet wasn't spectacular, but seemed fresh enough. The green beans were waxy. After sampling some contenders, I settled on a lunch of fried shrimp and sweet potatoes. These are two things that are pretty hard to totally fumble. Still, these items were probably a little better than average. However, for the price that we paid, I probably would have been better off just ordering a fried shrimp meal, and really, I don't generally order a fried anything meal. It just happened to be the best offering on the buffet. The location is convenient, and the bar and live music area looked like a promising beach hang. The lunch buffet, however, left a bit to be desired in terms of value and flavor.

I enjoyed this restaurant the last 2 years on vacation until I went this time to the newly remodeled restaurant. The raised the price from 27.95 to 32.95 and the food variety and quality was worse. I am not a huge seafood person and they lacked the foods that they had for the past 2 years such as ribs, chicken, and steak. I have 3 year old who doesnt like all the fancy stuff either and the took away his favorite mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. Please go back to what you were before next year.

Their $25.00 buffet is totally over-priced. You can get better and fresher food at Golden Corral for half the price. The chef's FOOD network Iron Chef attempts weren't it even close. The pork with chocolate sauce and Jamaican chicken was so tough I didn't even bother eating second bites. The only thing I ate was the prime rib and snow crabs which were mediocre at best. It was definitely lower quality beef and seafood though. The dessert bar was pretty to look at but everything there including the pastries and sliced pies were stale and old. The grossest part was when I turned around and saw the head chef (black chef jacket) picking his nose while he was checking on the food. The young brunette hostess was a bit of a snob and she was really busy working on her cellphone behind the counter. Our waiter was really creepy too. The only thing the restaurant has going for them is the ocean view, but i can get that for free standing on the beach. Won't be coming back. Take it from me and all the other people that rated negatively here, it's not worth your money and the food is not worth your time. Go somewhere else!

We hit Shephard's buffet post St. Patrick's Day Phillies game, prior to heading out to their bar. I was unimpressed. I got a caesar salad, which was a huge pile of lettuce with not much of anything else on it. All the seafood was mediocre to fair. The waitress was surly. All in all, skip the restaurant, go straight to the bar outside. A much better experience for your money.

Took my mom here for mother's day dinner. The first thing I noticed about this place was the location. Absolutely gorgeous. Located on the beach in Clearwater. The view of sunset was stunning. Food was above average for American cuisine. Prime rib was cooked medium rare, but it was also very fatty. The jus that you could ladle onto it complemented it very well. It wasn't too salty but wasn't bland either. The sushi was definitely a miss. A 10 dollar Chinese buffet could do better. My favorite dishes here were the mashed potatoes (which were lumpy and buttery, just the way I liked it), lobster mac and cheese (aka risotto) which was surprisingly flavorful and cheesy, the grilled salmon 9which was tender, moist and flavorful (probably the first time I've seen a buffet serve a good whole grilled salmon, and the shredded duck meat wrapped in crepe (sweet, salty, and meaty, all wrapped in a light crepe) - this was probably my favorite hot dish. dessert was kinda dry, except for the small chocolate and vanilla rolls (which exploded in flavor). Chicken pot pie was dry, all fishes in sauces were overcooked and dry, cornbread was average (didn't have much texture or flavor), lobster bisque had too much cream and butter, salmon cakes were bland and dry without the cajun remoulade though. The desserts were kinda a disappointment for an american restaurant. All except one. the small little chocolate or vanilla rolls were moist and exploded in flavor when you bit into them. My mom must have eaten like 10 of those. you don't even want know how many I ate. Pluses and minueses, great view on the waterfront, good outdoor patio with music, but kinda expensive for what you get.

Hubby and I went to this place 8 years ago on our honeymoon and really enjoyed the buffet. While vacationing in Florida, we definitely wanted to go back. The buffet was exactly as I remembered it. I really enjoyed the fried shrimp, stuffed fish, crab legs and peel and eat shrimp. The sushi was pretty bland, but everything can't be good. Lots of variety for a buffet. We sat outside, which was not good at first because the sea gulls and flies were out of control. Once the sun set, dinner was much better. The drinks were good and strong. I really enjoyed my Hurricane. Overall, I would visit this place again if I am vacationing. It had a nice vibe and we got to hear live music from the bar next door, then walk on the beach, which is a few steps away, after dinner

My husband and I went here for Valentine's Day and we arrived at 5:00 when the buffet opened. We were greeted by the staff and each female was given a rose, good start. Our waiter for the evening, Jason was terrific, very attentive during our meal, but not on top of us, always off where he could keep an eye on us to help with questions, take drink orders, take plates away and refresh napkins as needed. Wow.......the biggest seafood buffet I have ever seen and was awesome, the crab and peel and eat shrimp were worth it. My husband tried the salmon which surprised me as he usually is a red meat guy and he loved it. The desserts offered so many little tastes of wonderful decadent little morsels. Everything was hot that should be and cold that should be, perfect. I think that the value for what you get is in line and I have no complaint about the price. We will definitely be back on our next trip to the area.

Let me preface this by saying I love this place for partying... I recently stayed here for one night and there were three things that I had to mention about my stay. 1) Upon check-in, we received a 10 percent off coupon to the dinner buffet (26.95/person). Well, while eating, we read the small print on the coupon and it said that the 10 percent off only applied to those who bought drinks. Being that we had waters to begin with, we had to buy sodas to get the discount (after calculating what kind of discount we'd receive, it turns out we'd only have to pay a nickel for our soda if we decided to get them). What a scam. If you're going to offer guests staying at the hotel a deal on an expensive and lackluster buffet, at least have the decency of doing it right. My advice: either make a better buffet or make it cheaper (especially to hotel guests). I really wish there was a good cut of steak included instead of that fatty roast. 2) I understand the dress code policy at Shephard's - no basketball shorts for guys inside the tiki bar. Well, the night before, I got into the tiki bar wearing a pair of basketball shorts without any of the beefed up macho men saying anything to me (and I wasn't even staying at the hotel that night). I tried to walk in with my girlfriend and was stopped and told "no basketball shorts" - meanwhile, a guy in front of me walked right in with a pair of them on. Of course I didn't say anything, but again, since I'm a guest of the hotel and was wearing the wristband to prove it, I'd expect a bit more courtesy. And if not courtesy to just let me in, at least be consistent on a nightly basis enforcing the rules and enforcing them equally across the board. 3) Ok, so most of us know Shephard's is a party spot, especially on Memorial Day weekend (the night we spent there). Hell, that's why we love it there. So why is it that I'm awaken at 8 a.m. by a loud vacuum cleaner just outside of my door? Com'on Sheps. You know a lot of your guests are probably passed out at this time of the morning trying to get some rest for the next day on the beach, and having your cleaning crew vacuum hallways at 8 in the morning was annoying and absolutely lacking in common sense. Another small point I wanted to make was about the TVs. There was no way for me to connect my DVD player or PS3 so that we could watch movies at night. There was an outlet for the video (yellow) but none for sound (red or white). I tried calling the front desk about it and they transferred me so many times I just gave up. Oh well. Like I said before, I've always liked Shephard's for the big party weekends. I used to stay here all the time and it seems like this place is going downhill. Maybe when the new part of the hotel opens up they will get their shit together. I wasn't the only one complaining (I heard other people complaining about the service they were getting and rude remarks from the staff). Clearwater Beach seems to be booming since the Hyatt went up and they finished all the construction on the new road and boardwalk going through the beach. I'm sure once Sheps finishes its addition to the hotel it will bring even more business. Just make sure you guys are prepared for it and don't undervalue the worth of your guests.

I believe that two stars suits this buffet well. That seems to be the average review. The place seems to be very "taped together". The food is average, (the prime rib was the best thing there), although I had 19 Oysters on the half shell (I counted). Somethings were very nice (e.g. Prime Rib, Oysters, etc), but somethings were very eww. (e.g. the oysters covered in barnacles that were a bit rotten). The service was also "taped together". The waiters were a bit "too friendly" being smart alceky, almost drooling for tips. The atmosphere changed depending where you were in the Hotel. The Buffet was, well a typical buffet (but a bit small for the price) The main dining room had bad carpet and was very stuffy. The outside\inside dining room was indoors, but was on a deck. (Hard to explain),(but nice view). The outside ocean ( I should say gulf) view was impeccable. The front of the hotel was laid out schematically; like an airport. Overall this place is worth a try, but nothing to come back to

Heard that this was supposed to be a beautiful restaurant on the water, with great food. We got there around 9pm and were seated outside. Big problem: people are allowed to smoke while dining outside in Florida. Nothing like a side of lung cancer with your meal. I had ciggarette smoke coming at me from every angle. Gross. The lighting was horrible. For some reason there were two tacky, green club lights shining on the patio dining area. This was not charming. The buffet looked mediocre. I ordered off the menu..chicken. Definitely looked and tasted like something I could have made at home. Overall, this was not a great experience. Did I mention valet parking? Give me a break!

Have been to this place years ago and it hasnt changed. The atmosphere is still the same and so is the crowd. I had the blackened grouper fish tacos and they're onion rings...VERY good. My girlfriends loved the fresh oysters they had. We love coming here when we come to Clearwater because of the food, drinks and live entertainment. Oh...and to play some Corn hole:-)

First, a note to management. When a customer is talking to the bartender wait until it's the bartender's turn to speak before you interrupt. This happened twice, to other customers, while we were sitting at the bar having lunch last Wednesday. This was very rude even if you had a room full of TV producers as you did. Second, I'm giving SWR a 2 star only because the burgers we had, on the first day we tried it, were wonderful. Due to this and previous reviews about the nightly buffet, I think the chef should maybe stick with pub food. As for our 2nd and last visit, which was also my birthday dinner, the buffet looked at smelled wonderful. The taste of anything, not so good. I started with what I thought was Caesar Salad; the dressing was nothing but enough vegetable oil for the salad to shimmer. The crab salad was pretty good, but the coleslaw tasteless like the Caesar salad. The baked brie was only the cheese in a pastry with no sweet flavor whatsoever which made it more like thick white american cheese dip which had hardened. The pita points that went with the brie were good. I also tried, tried is the word here, the prime rib. Prime rib is supposed to be velvety, any way you look at it. This stuff couldn't even be cut with a butter knife let alone a steak knife which was no where to be found. I actually apologized to the waitress for wasting the huge hunk of meat tossed on my plate. It really is not that hard to cook a full prime rib, especially if one is an actual trained chef. This was the worst prime rib I've ever had. For side dishes I had the long beans, roasted potatoes, and a roll. FYI, long beans are very long and wonderful as a outer decoration for another dish which blends in. If using as a side dish, the long beans should be cut. I had beans taking over my plate. They tasted okay but were hanging off the plate as I tried to get other things. The prime rib did a good job of anchoring the beans so none fell on the floor while traveling back to my table. The potatoes were dry and as all with no flavor and the roll must have been returned from the night before. Eating outside on the water under tiki lamps was a plus, making the experience romantic. But as for the food.........for dessert I had a cigarette!

The buffet was expensive and the food all tasted warmed up after it was cooked and sat for a while. Most people rave about endless crab legs, but I found them to be watery and without much meat

    (2)
  • Melinda T.

Good selection of food - shame it doesn't taste any good. The $24.95 price tag on the buffet is a rip off if you are looking for nice, quality food. Of course it worth every penny if you are going for the quantity. The service sucks. We booked a table for 12 people and they wanted to split us into two groups. NO THANKS

    (1)
  • Tommy S.

So many haters... My girlfriend and I are fond of buffets and while we don't mind spending extra dollars on a meal the price of $32.95 was not only fair but a whole lot less than what we pay in Miami or Orlando (which isn't even Oceanside). The crab legs were certainly fresh and abundant. Everyone was helpful. I would definitely eat here again, and I wish they were located in Miami too. I saw a comment below about $20 buffets.... Seafood is generally expensive. I couldn't imagine a $20 buffet being 5 stars. Sounds like a risky meal.

The old buffet was so much better! I feel like its now similar to a Chinese buffet. I also felt the food was either too salty or too sweet. Way overpriced! My stomach and pocket wasn't satisfied after leaving. Very disappointed.

  • Dan H.

For a buffet, the selection and quality is great. The crab legs, alone, are worth going for, but they have some other great things to offer. Drinks were good, nothing to complain about there. Service was very good and very polite, always attentive. Desert selection is good and several desserts were fantastic. A great meal, all under $100 (buffet is $33/ ea) and in clearwater, not bad.

Awesome seafood buffet. Something for everyone, even the landlubbers. Bri was our server, very nice and friendly...quick with refills. Kinda pricey, but worth the cost. We dine here whenever we visit clearwater. Would highly recommend.

I really hate writing bad reviews - but this buffet was so bad, I had to. We went on Christmas Day Negatives: food tasted bland, cold and horrible. Mashed potatoes were hard and tasteless, a lot of the food was gone or cold. Do they not taste their food before putting it out? We saw our waiter one time. I had to ask another waiter for soy sauce. I only saw my waiter when he brought our drinks in the very beginning and then he gave us the check an hour later, that's it! The line was so long other people started to cut in line, complete disarray. The creme brûlée was disgusting and the chocolate cake was hard from sitting out in the open air. The table behind us walked out because there waiter never showed up to ask them what they wanted to drink. Positives: great view and great valet service Not worth the $34.99 per person plus drinks. Sizzlers has better food. Should of went with my first choice: Chart House in Tampa. Now that's a restaurant.

Best buffet ever! My 10 year old and I are slightly particular and were skeptics but it was cold and rainy so we tried it and absolutely loved it. The dessert bar is incredible. I thought I'd maybe need to be rolled out of here when I was finished. Yum

  • Ashley F.

Such great food! The atmosphere was pleasant. It wasn't crowded when we arrived, and we were immediately seated. The waitress was prompt and friendly when taking care of us. Yes, the price is a bit extreme, but the food is well worth it. Just go with a big appetite. There's a salad bar, steaks, seafood, dessert bar, chicken, mashed potatoes, even quesadillas, and so so much more. Too much to list. Don't let the price stop you from trying this at least one time if you have the funds to do so. Great, fresh food!

Come here for the seafood buffet. It's not that expensive ($32), and all the offerings are delicious. They really don't skimp on the seafood and that is why you come to Clearwater Beach, isn't it? You would spend that much (or more) ordering just crab legs at any other restaurant in the area. Valet parking was free the night we were here.

When you first get there it's a amazing site to see, 5 stars setup from the valet to the buffet. The food was more than amazing from the salad to the deserts and everything in between. Fresh everything and a great drink menu. The service wasn't the best our waitress was also the bar tender and she was too busy prepping the bar to take care of us. She added gratuity to our bill because we had 6 people in our party even though it was 3 adults and 3 kids. The kids never got a refill and I waited about 15 minutes for mine. Our bill came to $191.50 before the tip. I believe if we would of had better service it would of been a lot more enjoyable.

They have a great buffet. A lot to choose from and very fresh. My advice, if you're going for a holiday (like Mother's Day) get the earliest reservation available. We took the earliest reservation and by the time we left the line to get food was out the door. Valet parking is standard.

We came here for New Years Eve. The buffet was delicious and replenished often. It was very loud in the restaurant but we sat outside where it was chilly, but quieter. I would recommend that they add some additional lighting outside as it was hard to see our menus, food, each other.

I just tried the all you can eat buffet at The Ocean Flame in Shephard's resort hotel and it was absolutely delicious. I was taken care by Kayla who gave me an excellent dining experience by checking on me constantly, thank you so much. Todd the manager also checked on me periodically making my experience one to remember. Now the food, absolutely delicious. Raw oysters, prime rib, crab legs, steak they have a huge selection of fresh seafood, meat salads. Etc etc etc. their desserts were phenomenal as well. Cream brûlée, key lime pie flan. Pies cookies. I definitely recommend The Ocean Flame. Definitely worth every dime. Can't wait to come back. Great job gang

Food was good... not great. We sat on the porch and weather was nice. I was planning on seeing the sunset but even though we were on the water, it actually set a little "around the corner" if that makes sense. The lobster bisque was too salty for everyone at our table. Crab legs were really yummy! Great assortment of desserts! Overall Shephard's had a great variety of food just not the best quality.

This was an incredible value -- unlimited crab legs, oysters, shrimp, prime rib. On New Year's Eve hard to find a better deal. Opt for outdoor seating on the waterfront -- romantic, torch lit just 15 or so tables vs. the cruise ship mob scene inside. And, consider that New York Times tipping etiquette suggests just 10% at a buffet vs. standard 15-20% for full wait-staff service. Free valet parking. Hot, high quality well-prepared seafood buffet.

Waaaay over priced. Food was decent at best. Fish smelt fishy. Carving station meat was dry. Because they slice it and let all the juice escape. And when we added one drink each to our meal the bill was $92.00. By the time you tip out a guy for picking up plates we were $110 deep. Never again

If I could give this restaurant less then one star I would. 1. To start our waiter was awful. He seemed rushed when the restaurant was not even crowded. He checked on our table once, and that was it. I was at the restaurant with my friend, and she did not like the drink she received from the bar; she only had one sip. Not once did someone ask us how our meal was going or asked us if everything was okay. I understand it is a buffet style restaurant, but in my opinion it is unacceptable. 2. The meal, for the buffet, costs you $32 as a flat rate. This I am assuming is due to the seafood that they offer. However there is no way that the food they provide is worth even $20. The food is mediocre at it's best. It is extremely overpriced for what they have. Do NOT waste you're evening eating here unless you are completely incapable of getting somewhere else. There are so many other places to eat on Clearwater beach that you should only go here as a last, and I mean LAST resort.

I don't understand why this place has such a low rating on Yelp. Yes, people will invariably have to deal with issues regarding parking, service, convenience, etc. I didn't have to, personally. But I still think this place is a gem. The food here is fantastic- completely exceeded my expectations. The salads, tapenade, all-you-can-eat crab legs (I'm vegetarian, but my brother sure gobbled them down). Had a few beers, ate some great food- that's what it's all about. Good times in Clearwater.

I have come here in the past and had the buffet, but arriving back here some years later, it's much different. I have to say they did a great job on the remodel. The food was great! the Staff was nice. I enjoyed being back. Hats off to the new makeover. Will be back again when in town.

This is going to be a mixed review from a local. Beautiful location/view. Yes they have steak, crab, shrimp, prime rib -the bigger ticket items-so one could argue for the $35 price that they have all that, however, I've been to buffets that have all that as well and the price was $20 so I still think the $35 price is high. I don't know why they call it "interactive"..what does that mean? The "interactive" part was the server taking away dirty plates ?? lols. the food itself was ok- some was in truth very good but despite it was steady busy it wasn't hot, barely lukewarm and that ruins it somewhat. the crab legs were "ok" but they had that brownish old or freezerburnt look -the steak was good-the peel n eat shrimp good too - mahi , ribs, fried items were ok, but nothing was hot. I would say its ok, not bad but I wouldn't make the drive again and pay $35 for lukewarm "ok" food.

I don't care who you are, but $28 for a buffet is a lot of damn money. In that way, I was put off by the Shephard's Restaurant. However, I suppose I understand the price because of all the seafood offered, but seriously? Their buffet was hit or miss for me. I liked the rolls, the fried shrimp, the clams, the fruit, and the pita. I also liked our waitress. I did not like the sushi (gooey), the chicken (dried out), or the lobster bisque. Overall, I think this buffet was okay.

Not anywhere near what I expected. The food was less than so-so, it was a hassle to get in with the only option of vallet requiring $10 cash, and the service was underwhelming. Huge disappointment-would rate zero stars if an option...

Came here a few years ago an their buffet was 18.95. Well since then they must of changed ownership since they have done a complete remodel. So the place looks much nicer inside. With that said, since it is hot out being in August I had on a nice tank top. After being seated the hostess comes back to my table to tell me that I have to put on one of their t-shirts, which is a typical hanses white t shirt btw. A shirt is now required to be seated in this place. I was a little Embarrassed but whatever. So the buffet is actually pretty good but I never saw any price for the buffet. After our meal we received our bill which was 32.00 per person which my friend an I about fell out of our chairs!!

My brother had heard this place had a good Sunday brunch so we drove from Tampa to check it out...I read some reviews of the place and was'nt expecting much...We had all been to two other Sunday brunches in Tampa recently, one at Oyster Catchers and the other at the Rusty Pelican, and were disappointed by both although Oyster Catchers was the better of the two so I was expecting to be "underwhelmed" again..How WRONG I was...This brunch buffet was the best Ive ever had..I might add its the cheapest of the three brunches Ive mentionned...The array of choices is eye popping and you really wont be able to taste everything in one visit...Theres just too much to choose from...The prime rib was the best Ive ever had on a buffet or ala carte...It was med rare and delcious...The raw oysters were the biggest Ive seen anywhere in years..They were fresh and fabulous..The clams in cream sauce were great...There were several baked fish dishes that were great...the stuffed flounder had a fabulous stuffing...The breakfast items were incredible...sausages,crisp bacon, and the eggs benedict...I have to make a special comment on the eggs benedict...Poached eggs are hard to get right even when you order them ala carte but to serve them on a buffet is tough because they are so delicate...Their version of eggs benedict at Shephards is hands down the best Ive ever had..I could have just eaten that and been happy...The cold salad array was huge with fresh crisp greens of every description...I could go on and on about the food but Im sure you have gotten my drift...Everything I tasted was great...As I said Ive been to many brunches and at places that are more famous for their brunch than Shephards but Shephards is by FAR the best of them because of their attention to the details...Every dish was served with it appropriate condiment or sauce... The salad plates were chilled...Hot foods were kept hot and cold foods were kept cold....This place is doing it right and the kitchen staff deserves alot of credit...Our server was very efficient...The view is gorgeous...Oh..I also have to say that the table next to us orderred ala carte from the menu and their plates all looked fabulous..I realize this is a LONG review but I was WOWED and had to say so...Please check this place out for yourself and see what I mean...

Free valet parking was nice, don't have to hunt for a parking spot. Not a huge variety of food, but the food was delicious. The all-you-can-eat menu had oysters and crab legs, amongst other dishes. It was a bit pricey, but easy to justify after seeing the dishes they had.

Yum

The meal was completely ruined because our watch was stolen. We found out that more than 5 people had thier watches stolen that night. Turned out to to be a 800 dollar dinner. Not worth it!!!!

I have come here in the past and had the buffet, but arriving back here some years later, it's much different. I have to say they did a great job on the remodel. The food was great! the Staff was nice. I enjoyed being back. Hats off to the new makeover. Will be back again when in town.

Great atmosphere. Sit outside and enjoy. Waiter was really friendly. The buffet was good. Unlimited sushi rolls! All the seafood was fresh.

We went on the 4th of July. We felt the buffet was a good value. we had peel, and eat shrimp, lobster bisque, the buffet was a lot if good food, the prime rib was okay but the crabs legs were great. The dessert bar was good also. We would come again.

This place had one of the best seafood buffets I've ever had. The atmosphere was nice, and there was a huge selection of seafood as well as prime rib. The service was great. I think we paid $15-$20 to eat here, and it was well worth the price. If I make it back to Clearwater, I'm definitely going back there.

In a world where children routinely go to bed hungry - not only in Third World countries but our own, as well - facing a buffet table groaning under the weight of food people pile on their plates and discard after a few nibbles tends to make me feel guilty. That said, I admit that an all-you-can-eat experience offering good food at a reasonable price is an attractive way to get the most bang for your buck. This waterfront dining spot, with views of the Gulf of Mexico from every table, offers an a la carte menu, but its main draw are the three-times-daily buffets to which locals and tourists from other hotels, in addition to those staying at this resort, flock on a regular basis. It's difficult to resist the $8.95 price tag for lunch (breakfast is $6.95, dinner - featuring seafood and prime rib - is $22.95) especially when everything is a few notches above the cuisine found at similar venues in the area. The salad bar includes the typical assemble-it-yourself fixings, in addition to decent Waldorf and Caesar, the traditional macaroni, potato, and three-bean, and the less-appealing but seemingly omnipresent carrot-raisin and ambrosia. Hot options include a selection of soups, baked fish, turkey with all the trimmings, meatloaf, fried chicken, roast beef, ribs, loin of pork, pasta, jambalaya, and a variety of potatoes and vegetables. Cold cuts and cheeses for available for sandwiches. Due to our Lenten resolve to avoid sweets until Easter, we skipped the dessert table, but there was a wide array of cakes, pies, cookies, and other sugary delights on display. None of the preparations are especially creative, nor do they come close to being gourmet, but if you're in the mood for heaps of hearty comfort food, this place will fulfill your need. The staff was quick to remove dirty dishes and keep water glasses filled, and certainly deserved more than a 10% gratuity, the amount the couple at the next table loudly debated. Judging by the two crumpled dollar bills he left behind, the miserly husband clearly won the battle.

Definitely a place to go if you're interested in Quantity of food. The quality really isnt' that bad either since you get such a large selection to choose from, but not something I like to frequent unless drawn over by someone or some occassion. Restaurant has a warm and rich deck feeling with generous views of the beach. At night, there's usualyl a live band or radio station that comes out to play music on the deck/pier. Good place to go on Sunday nights when there's nothing happening anywhere else. You can come in almost anything - bathing suit w/ a l'il cover up, shorts, flip flops, some ppple dress up. but its florida! who dresses up?

Such great food! The atmosphere was pleasant. It wasn't crowded when we arrived, and we were immediately seated. The waitress was prompt and friendly when taking care of us. Yes, the price is a bit extreme, but the food is well worth it. Just go with a big appetite. There's a salad bar, steaks, seafood, dessert bar, chicken, mashed potatoes, even quesadillas, and so so much more. Too much to list. Don't let the price stop you from trying this at least one time if you have the funds to do so. Great, fresh food!

  • K K.

Very good! Both the seafood and non seafood selection was fantastic so even if you don't eat seafood it was well worth the price. Even the pickiest eater will be happy here. To top it all off, the dessert bar was amazing.

NO THANKS

How come no one has mentioned their happy hour?! HUGE $2.00 beers and cheap appetizers. They usually have cool bands, you can sit on their back porch/deck, watch the sunset and the boats coming back through the channel.

I went here the first night on my trip. It was ok... It was during the week and we ate outside. They had a live band and the food was really good (fish tacos). It is also right on the water (depends on where you sit). The only problem was that you could almost time the waitress for every task... Everything took 10 minutes. You need a drink? 10 minutes later it would show up. You need a glass of water? 10 minutes. You need a menu? 10 minutes. You need your tab? 10 minutes. Run your card? 10 minutes. Stick with beer if you are drinking as well. Their specialty drinks are so weak my girlfriend slammed one and didn't even feel it. (She is a total lightweight, she gets loopy after 2 beers). Cost about $10 each for the food. The Mojitos and Pina Coladas were a different story. They were $6.75 for some really weak Oasis drinks.

For a fun, music-filled day in the sun Shephard's is the place. I've been here 5 times in the last 6 months and I live in Chicago. I visited in April, May and the Labor Day weekend. Each time it gets better and better. Why? I always arrive to find parking waiting for me (OK, not on Labor Day weekend), an ice cold Mojito, some peel and eat shrimp, fun people at nearby tables and dance music. Oh, age range of people is probably 25-45, I've never seen any children here and sadly to say, the crowd is not very diverse. However, the crowd is a nice mix of locals and tourists. Shephard's bands (which play 7 days a week, I believe) performs from 11:00am-11pm; at end of season that changes to 2pm-11pm. But do not despair because the INDOOR club at Shephard's opens up at 10pm so the party continues on. During the day, when you're hungry while sitting in the sun...just wave the waitress over and order up lunch. Later in the evening for a real dinner you can either dine off the menu at the fabulous restuarant they have inside or enjoy the buffet which always includes crab legs and an array of fresh seafood. If sitting in the sun and getting your tan on is not your cuppa tea, just stroll over to the beach front for a swim. Or jump on a boat and go parasailing. While you're waiting for your parasailing launch boat to arrive, cool off in the gulf bay and chat it upwith the folks anchoring their boats near the fun. By now, after your parasailing, dancing and dining.... the sun must set. And what better place to watch it than here...breathtaking. If you go to Shephard's and don't enjoy yourself....check your pulse, then see your doctor! P.S....Anyone remember Tone Loc? The "Funky Cold Madina - Wild Thang" guy? He was the featured act at Shephard's this Labor Day weekend 2006. Check my profile for pics!!! Also, I've just read the reviews three others have posted and all they talk about is the all-you-can-eat buffet. This is SOOO not the highlight of this site....but I will agree, the buffet is great. But careful, or you won't fit into that new bikini you bought!

They have a great buffet. A lot to choose from and very fresh. My advice, if you're going for a holiday (like Mother's Day) get the earliest reservation available. We took the earliest reservation and by the time we left the line to get food was out the door. Valet parking is standard.

    (4)
  • K K.

Very good! Both the seafood and non seafood selection was fantastic so even if you don't eat seafood it was well worth the price. Even the pickiest eater will be happy here. To top it all off, the dessert bar was amazing.

    (2)
  • Norman M.

NO THANKS

This was a great buffet. I'd go again. It was the only redeeming part of our overall bad experience at Shephard's resort.

How come no one has mentioned their happy hour?! HUGE $2.00 beers and cheap appetizers. They usually have cool bands, you can sit on their back porch/deck, watch the sunset and the boats coming back through the channel.

  • Matt J.

Excellent buffet!!! Great variety of sea food, meat, vegetables and fruits, and tremendous choice of deserts!!! They have seats on the deck outside with amazing view. Highly recommended!!!

Yum

We were staying at Shephard's Hotel ( great place ,clean and GREAT STAFF ) after talking with one of the maids I passed on going down the street to a " nice restaurant " for my birthday ,and yes I'm glad I did ! the prime rib ROCKED ! I am no fan of buffet at all but with what looks like 4 full time people keeping hot ,clean and neat I can't bitch at all . I took a taste of the 28 items on that night 23 get ya that's good 3 get it may be good but not my cup of tea and 2 get 5 stars .Then at 9:30 ish a cool 80's band kicks in and we danced the night away .This was a very fun place with an outstanding staff and good food ,if your in or near clearwater ,fla GO HERE !
